If you're reading this post, it's probably because you are a dear friend or part of my family (hi mom!). So you likely know my story of who I am and where my music journey has taken me so far. BUT if you are new and this is our first time meeting, I'm excited you're here and just wanted to say thanks for stopping in.
This is officially the first website I've ever had and I must say it feels pretty cool. As you can see from the photos above, I've been playing music pretty much my whole life. The little John you see on the left is a happy boy of 6, receiving his first "real" acoustic guitar on Christmas morning in 2003 (and I still have it). This was, in many ways, the beginning of my musical journey. From that age on music was the forefront of my life. It connected me with many of the lifelong friends I have to this day, it's brought me out of many dark days, and it sparked the dream that still lives in me today. There's about 20 odd years of life between me and that 6-year-old lad holding his first acoustic guitar, and I would love to slowly share them with you in due time. However, what I want to focus on first is where I'm at today.
In 2023 I won a contest called "It's Your Shot" that gave me a record deal with Slaight Music. This was the best possible thing that could have happened because Slaight Music is an incredible organization that really cherishes the opportunity to develop and invest in new artists, while keeping things very fair and "artist-friendly". For those of you who don't know the music business, let's just say this is an extremely rare situation. So the remainder of 2023 and all of 2024 were prep (writing and producing the songs, building out the visual components, working on developing my social presence etc etc). I should also mention I am a full-time music producer (actually I just received my 4th JUNO nom for Preston Pablo's album 2 days ago!), composer, and studio engineer, so my time is virtually split into segments to work on all of the above. But it's the way I like it. The variety keeps me creatively fulfilled. But anyways, this week is so special because my first song as a signed artist is came out yesterday (Feb 14, 2025) and I am buzzing. It's called "Brown Eyes" and it's the first of many releases this year.
So if you're still with me, I just wanted to say thank you for the support. Thank you for reading this first entry. Thank you for helping the 6-year-old's dream come true. I know he'd be grinning chin to chin!
